Happy New Year to all our readers
Welcome to 2008 and all the best in
proactive health, parenting and learning from your
Medical Home at La Joya Paediatrics.
New changes
in 2008
Relocation of the
office
Due to an increase in
rent at the La Joya Complex, we have decided to
relocate in April 2008 in an effort to keep
costs down and to develop a better and more efficient
business system.
The new site is the
historic old warden's office at 23, Mc Donald
St., Curepe. It is 1 block south of the newly
revamped Farm Rd., and one block east on Phillip St. to
the Corner of Phillip and Mc Donald
Streets, right opposite the Curepe Pentecostal
Church.
There will be parking,
security systems and lots of rooms. Look out for a
special area for teens, a computer area where you can
look up any relevant health, parenting or learning, and
a new and improved play room. And don't worry, Nemo and
his friends will be moving with us. A kitchen is also
available so you can enjoy a complimentary cup of tea if
you are stressed out.
Our telephone numbers remain the same and
you can find more detailed info on the website.
New Child
Specialist at La Joya Paediatrics
Dr. Thomas will be away from the
office from mid February till the end of March.
The practice will be covered by Dr.
Dottin, a UK trained Child Specialist who has
recently returned to Trinidad. Dr. Akan,
who many of you already know, will also be
providing extra coverage.
Change in
fees
We have been doing our best to be
affordable to many, but due to rising costs, we must
retool the practice and the Resource Centre, and our
cost of service must increase. When we move to the new
location in April, all Revisits will
increase to $200 and New
visits will increase to $240.
The good news is that all immunizations remain the same.
We encourage you to plan for your yearly Health
Supervision Visits and keep some money put away for a
sick visit.
Change in
records and printing
For those of you who
have come in to the office for 2008, you will notice
that we have made the switch to electronic
medical records. New patients, information will
be entered by Ava directly onto the computer who will
also add any changes you may have to your contact
information. Lisa, our nurse will enter your child's
information including weight and height and show you on
the computer downstairs where your child falls on the
growth chart. The file will then be sent to Dr. Thomas,
who will complete the visit. The information is backed
up on a secure site that handles many practices in the
US.
To further cut down on printing costs, we
are asking patients to walk with their insurance forms
at the visit.
LJP Resource
Centre

The Resource Centre will be incorporated
into Frontier Spaces Ltd. and redefined to many exciting
and ground breaking changes
One of our continuing
activities is the Weigh 2 Rock weight loss
program that is now available for teens and
tweens. We have partnered with a US based online
pediatric program that can be accessed through the
office. The program has helped young people in the US
lose weight through interaction with health
professionals and other teens. For anyone interested in
the program, ask Dr. Thomas or Lisa about the details
.
TIBS Monthly
Meetings
Our last TIBS meeting at the
Resource Centre was held on Wednesday
2nd January 2008 and was well patronized in
spite of being so close to the New Year holiday. The
moms who attended were able to gain valuable information
for our counselors as well as from other breastfeeding
mothers who went through many of the same trials faced
by our new mothers.
There will be no meeting on Ash
Wednesday which is the first Wednesday in
February. The March meeting will be held at our
new location at 23 Mc Donald St. |
