Love and Logic®
Love and Logic is nothing new to our patients as we are always advising all our parents to try some of the techniques they have taught us. In this edition, we have an article sent in by Linda Anderson, our local Love and Logic® Consultant, dealing with discipline in young children. It talks about three common myths about discipline. Check out and see which ones you thought were true
1 Discipline and learning require language
2.A little child cannot remember and learn
3. Setting limits will break your child's spirit
For the full article with the truth about these myths, check out our website www.lajoyamd.com or ask in the office for the hard copy.
Hand to Hold Program
Our Hand to Hold program started early last year at the Resource Centre and was aimed at getting health and life skills information out to young people in the community.
This term, we went out to Bishop Anstey High School in February and continued for 4 sessions. The girls of Form 1 and Form 3 were treated to such topics as healthy eating, managing your money and deportment/etiquette. The sessions were well received and the girls had lots of fun while learning.
LJP Resource
Centre
There is an exciting new camp being organized for the July/August vacation at the La Joya Resource Centre. Break into Business Camp is a camp that gives children the opportunity to develop and implement entrepreneurial skills. The learn-by-doing technique ensures that participants are exposed to a new experience, the world of entrepreneurship, and an exciting approach to learning. There will be one group for children 7-11years and another 12-18years.
The camp is being organized and run by Marcia Johnson, who is an experienced small Business Trainer. She has facilitated the first ever International Youth Co-operative Business Camp for the last 7 years. We look forward to working with Marcia as she starts this exciting new camp and maybe develop some new entrepreneurs. |
